Being a dad, I am also in charge of making sure that everything in our home is functioning well. Aside from cooking, I have done several carpentry and plumbing tasks too.
Plumbing may seem to be a simple home repair concern. However, if not properly done it could result into various plumbing hazards and may even cause damage to electrical wiring. In order to avoid plumbing hazards, here are some tips on how to stay safe:
- For any plumbing concerns, you can either do it yourself or seek assistance from local plumbers. Remember that in repairing leaks, you are sure to encounter wet surfaces. It is advisable to wear waterproof shoes or non-slip boots. Surface areas are usually slippery by wearing rubber-soled shoes it somehow minimize slipping. In some cases, plumbing problems will result into problems with electrical wiring. By wearing protective shoes, it lessens the possibility of getting electrocuted.
- It is also important to be aware of the electrical wiring near the piping problem. Remember that pipes are not the only thing that passes through your flooring and walls; there can be electrical wiring that you need to shut off. If you are not sure on how to do it, you may want to seek help from your local plumbers instead of repairing the pipe on your own. Or get the help of commercial electricians to take care of the electrical concerns.
- To reduce further damage in your house, you should turn off the water valve. Locate the valve nearest to the leak and shut it off, normally you just need to turn the valve clockwise to shut it off. Again, if you are unsure on how to do it yourself; it is always best to swallow your pride and seek help from professional local plumbers.
- Another way to avoid hazards is to wear the basic protective gear. You may have seen how local plumbers and commercial electricians work, they normally wear safety goggles and gloves. Make sure that the gloves are well-fitted in order to maintain a good grip on pipes as well as tools. Safety goggles should not be too tight. You may also opt to wear face mask to prevent inhalation of chemical fumes.
- Lastly, do not force yourself too much. Avoid physical stress, if you need to lift heavy tools seek help and do not lift it on your own. Always use the strength of your legs in lifting something and not put too much pressure on your back to prevent back injury. If you experience sudden body pain, do a little stretching and stop working if the pain is becoming intolerable.
