I am quite frustrated and very much disappointed with the way an international company like Canon would be handling a customer complaint. My wife bought a Canon Powershot D10 from her hard-earned money doing her online work.
Canon Powershot D10 as describe has the following capabilities:
- it is waterproof meaning that you can submerse it up to the depth of 10 meters or 33 ft.
- it is shock proof , can survive a 4 ft drop
- it is also freeze proof can withstand 14-104 degrees Fahrenheit.
With all these features and capabilities, who would not be tempted to buy a Canon Powershot D10. We were so happy with the results of each photos taken using our new Canon Powershot D10. Until we decided to try its supposed to be waterproof and submersible feature.
We used our Canon Powershot D10 during our weekend getaway in Fontana. My son enjoyed having his photos taken underwater.
However, after using it underwater (not more than 4ft I guarantee!) – there was a build up of moist in the lens of my “Waterproof”" Canon Powershot D10. We had to wait for a couple of days to observe if the moist will go away. It actually did, BUT – it caused damaged to the LCD.
So we decided to bring our camera to the nearest Canon service center in our place which is located in Northwalk Olongapo-Gapan Road. We told them what happened and the customer service representative told us to wait for a week to know what caused the problem. Assuring us that they will be the one to call us.
A week passed, and we did not make any follow-up yet. No follow up call was done on the end of Canon Service Center too. After two weeks, we called them and they informed us that no result yet from their head office. The following day, they made a call informing us that it would take another two weeks for the parts to be replaced.

So that means, our Canon Powershot D10 is stuck with them for a month. After the two week extension, we made a follow up again. This time I insisted that it should be replaced. Because it should not happen in the first place, the Canon Powershot D10 was supposed to be waterproof. The customer rep told us to wait for another day. Then we received a text message telling us to send them a copy of the receipt. So that it would be replaced. We did as requested. We sent them the receipt right away. Upon receiving the copy of receipt, the customer rep told us to wait for another two weeks to have the camera replaced.
Yesterday, October 17 was the end of the two weeks that the people from Canon asked us to wait. We made a call to the customer rep, but we were unable to talk to him. We were informed that he is on lunch break. We asked them to give us a return call. But received nothing from them.
Today, we made another call to them to follow up our Canon Poweshot D10 which is stuck with them for a month and half. We were again informed that it should be either this coming Thursday or Friday. No efforts exerted on their end to update us on the status of the Canon camera.
This is very frustrating! Such lousy customer service from an international company like Canon. By the way, the customer service rep who was in-charge of our concern is named Gary. With this bad experience, never again would I buy a product from Canon. I would even discourage my friends and family from buying products of this brand. Canon Poor Customer Service will result into more and more unsatisfied customers. I think the company should do something about it. If they fail to deliver on time what they have promised, then it is their responsibility to inform the customer. It should not be the other way around.
