During summer in the Philippines, it is a normal scenario to see halo-halo stands on the streets. Well, it is simply because Halo-halo is considered as the favorite Filipino refreshment during summer.
Halo-halo (or “mix” in English) is actually made of shaved ice with lots of sweetened fruits like banana and langka (jackfruit). Plus sweet beans are also added to give vibrant color to it. To make the halo-halo more special, ice cream, leche flan and ube are placed on top. If these ingredients are not enough for you, then you may request for additional milk and sugar to make it more flavorful.
Philippines is a tropical country, and having a bowl or glass of halo-halo on hot summer days will surely provide a refreshing feeling. Here is a short list of the Philippines most famous halo-halo brand, this is in no particular order:
- Razon’s Halo-halo – this is the famous halo-halo of the Kapampangan and it is now being offered in many cities around the country.
- Chowking Halo-halo – the only food chain which offers the Filipinos favorite dessert during summer.
- Kabigting Halo-halo – it is famous for its usage of fresh carabao milk and pastillas for added flavor.
Whew! Writing about halo-halo made me crave for one. If you know other restaurants which offer delicious halo-halo feel free to leave a comment.

Here’s My Food Trip Friday
It’s pretty tropical here too and it’s been crazy warm for April. The meterologists are calling it August like weather. With it being near 90 already, I think I’ll need some halo-halo just to make it through the summer months.
